PRISM : Perception, Representations, Image, Sound, Music
More information at www.prism.cnrs.fr
We are happy to announce the creation of a new transdisciplinary laboratory called PRISM (Perception, Representations, Image, Sound, Music) that we have founded together with researchers in the Marseilles area from the research laboratories LMA (Laboratory of Mechanics and Acoustics), ASTRAM (Arts, Sciences, Technologies for Audiovisual Multimedia Research), LESA (Laboratory of Studies in Sciences of the Arts), LNC (Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience), CPPM (Centre for Particle Physics of Marseille) and with artists from the School of Arts in Aix-en-Provence (ESA).
PRISM associates various scientific disciplines together with the arts, on questions related to Perception and Representations. These questions are addressed through three shared objects of study: sound, image and music. This unprecedented laboratory, supported by the Aix-Marseille University, the CNRS and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, will be created on the 1st of January 2017 in Marseille – France.
PRISM constitutes a highly advanced interdisciplinary consortium consisting of mathematicians, acousticians, physicists, neuroscientists, psychologists, philosophers, physicians, musicologists, sociologists and artists. It is structured in three main parts (axes): engineering of perception, representations and epistemology of practices and interactions and creations as seen in the figure below.
Within these three axes, the following nine topics unfold :
- Modeling and perceptual control of sounds: Language of sounds (Resp. S. Ystad)
- Virtual and augmented perception – Industrial, societal and therapeutic applications (Resp. M. Aramaki)
- Experiences of consciousness and health engineering (Resp. J. Vion-Dury)
- Epistemology of practices: research, action and création (Resp. C. Esclapez and J. Christofol)
- Historicity and actuality of practices of sound and musical creations (Resp. N. Darbon)
- New authorship and narrative forms (Resp. A. Gonot)
- Audio-visual and film procedures and devices (Resp. N. Cyrulnik)
- Image/sound/music interactions (Resp. R. Adjiman)
- New auditoria, new instruments, listening pratices (Resp. P. Sinclair)
